Wilson County Citizens Targeted in Jury Service Scam

News image Wilson County residents are being targeted by scammers calling the victim and telling them they have failed to report for jury service and must pay a fee.

THIS IS A SCAM. You cannot be fined by telephone. Any call stating that a (bench) warrant has been issued due to not reporting for jury service is a scam. Further, it is a scam if payment by telephone is ordered to satisfy the bench warrant.

Court staff and the Sheriff's Office do not call citizens or send emails requesting Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, money, or any other sensitive financial information. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious calls or emails to their local Sheriff's Office. Victims may also report it to the N.C. Attorney General's Office. Additional information is available at the N.C. Department of Justice website, or consumers can call toll-free for help at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM.
