Wake County Justice Center Opening
News imageThe new Wake County Justice Center will open in July and will be holding two opening events for the public. The public preview of the justice center will be Saturday, June 29, from noon to 3:00 p.m. This will include self-guided tours, a county services expo, and staff from multiple departments will provide information and answer questions.

The opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will take place on Monday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m. Tours of the first three floors will be available, and district and superior court will hold a ceremonial joint session at 1:00 p.m. The Board of Commissioners will also meet at 2:00 p.m.

Features of the new justice center include:
  • 11-story building

  • 577,000 square feet (nearly double the previous courthouse)

  • 18 new courtrooms

  • 17 elevators

  • 232 seats in commissioners boardroom

  • Cost $188 million to complete construction over three years

  • LEED silver rating

  • Court services include clerk of court, district attorney, public defender, magistrates, district court, and superior court

  • County services include county manager, commissioners, finance, revenue, and register of deeds

  • Located at 300 S. Salisbury St. across from the old courthouse
